About

In 2016 the Jewish congregation of Shaare Torah was defaced in a hate crime. In the wake of that event, a few congregations decided that a public response of love, unity, and respect would help to not only heal current hurts, but make a longterm difference in Montgomery County.

Every year we gather on Labor Day (a day which is not a sabbath for anyone who is religiously observant) and a day that many have off from work. We are united in our commitment to learn about one another; to do something active and good for our bodies; to demonstrate togetherness; and to help those in need (read about our beneficiaries).

There are many races, but not many like this one whose primary purpose is to bring people from all walks of life together and foster better lives for others. We hope you’ll run or walk with us!

What Congregations Make this Race Happen?

Shaare Torah Jewish Congregation: We are welcoming, vibrant, Conservative synagogue. We are dedicated to the ideals of Judaism, including practicing kindness and connecting people to G-D and to each other. Located in Gaithersburg, MD.

Trinity Lutheran Church: We are an inclusive and affirming Christian congregation. We are a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation, which means we affirm and support people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions, and we are committed to racial equity. We believe that through our connections to God, each other, and our broader community we can make a difference in a hurting world. Located in Bethesda, MD.

The Islamic Society of the Washington area (ISWA): Founded in 1973, ISWA seeks to serve the religious and social needs of Muslims in the area. We aim to nurture faith, uphold values, and foster well-being in the community through worship, charity, and engagement. We strive to create a more peaceful world. Located in Burtonsville, MD.

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church: We are a loving, vibrant, and caring Christian community devoted to worship and serving our neighbor. We value the uniqueness of the individual and are active in our surrounding community. Located in Gaithersburg, MD.

InterFaith Families Project of Greater Washington (IFFP): We are an independent community of interfaith families. We are committed learning about and celebrating our Christian and Jewish traditions. This is a place where families can feel comfortable exploring, learning, and honoring different beliefs and perspectives. We seek to be open-hearted and loving of each other and our neighbor. Located in Rockville, MD.

Ohr Kodesh Jewish Congregation: We are a warm, engaging, Conservative Jewish congregation whose member households come from a broad range of backgrounds. Our kehillah (community) is dedicated to advancing the aims of Judaism through Torah (education), Tefillah (prayer), Chesed (act of lovingkindness) and the pursuit of Tikkun Olam (social justice) for all.  We work cooperatively with many community groups and invite all to join us in our endeavors.
